The University at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering will establish a $500 million solar manufacturing center that will create thousands of new jobs by 2014.
The school was awarded a $57.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy this week to form a new U.S. Photovoltaic Manufacturing Consortium to drive down the cost of solar product manufacturing.
That money will leverage an additional $275 million from more than 80 private companies and organizations that will join the consortium. The state has committed another $125 million.
