  2. Fuel Cells for Portable Power

    Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Fuel cells for portable power show great promise in meeting the ever-increasing power and energy requirements of portable electronic devices and are quickly gaining market share. However, large scale commercialization will depend upon improvements to fuel cell performance and durability, as well as cost reductions. This webinar will focus on recent R&D advancements in direct methanol fuels and their use in portable power. Researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory will discuss advanced materials and the development of new methanol oxidation catalysts, hydrocarbon membranes with reduced methanol crossover, and improvements to component durability. Researchers at the University of North Florida will focus on a "passive-water recovery" membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which eliminates the water recovery components, and results in a small, lightweight direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) power supply. Finally, researchers at Arkema will present their polymer electrolyte membrane design for direct methanol fuels which blends poly(vinylidene fluoride) with a sulfonated polyelectrolyte. Register to attend the webinar.
