Ryan Smith serves as Manager, Infrastructure Services at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO).  In this capacity he is responsible for directing the operation of complimentary and coordinated teams providing 24X7X365 support of the organization's infrastructure and assets used for bulk power markets trading $7.5B annually and reliable dispatch of over 500 electric power generators on New York's nearly 11,000 miles of high-voltage transmission.  Mr. Smith is accountable for enterprise security and all facets of system resiliency, including high availability and disaster recovery of the data centers.   He has 15 years of Information Technology experience with over 10 years at the NYISO.  Mr. Smith has developed a security program that produced a fully compliant audit finding on the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards for Critical Infrastructure Protection.  He also implemented a data center consolidation project leveraging "virtualization" technologies that reduced the number of physical servers by half, reduced cycle-time for new infrastructure deployments by half, and realized cost savings of $18.7M.  He is a member of the Security Working Group of the ISO/RTO Council and is a member of the Northeast Power Coordinating Council's Task Force for Infrastructure Security and Technology.  Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Business Administration from the Graduate College of Union University.
