James Lyons Chief Engineer - Electronics and Energy Conversion GE Global Research
Jim Lyons is Chief Engineer - Electronics and Energy Conversion at GE Global Research, responsible for providing electrical and electronic technology expertise to all the GE businesses. As chief engineer, he's technology leader and mentor for a 250-member global technology team in the US, Germany, India, & China.
Jim's been a principal champion of renewable energy within GE and technology leader of GE's 2002 entry into the wind energy business, currently GE's largest power generation business with revenues exceeding $4B. Jim is now leading new GE business/technology initiatives in waste gasification, plug-in hybrid vehicles, and rural electrification.
Jim sits on the board of directors for GE Powerex and the Electric Drive Trade Association. He's been awarded more than 30 patents. Jim is a 30 year GE veteran with a series of assignments in industrial control, automation, and power systems.
Jim earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MSEE from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and a PhD from Cornell University.
