Anthony O. Pereira, President  & CEO of altPOWER has more than a decade of experience in leadership, building renewable energy projects throughout the New York Metropolitan area with some of the leading architectural, engineering and construction management firms in the world.

His achievements have been featured in professional papers on renewable energy and he has been a speaker on the topic at numerous events and conferences throughout the world.  He has also been a featured guest on several local, national and international radio and television programs.

Anthony holds a BA in Economics from Fordham University in the Bronx and he spent a portion of degree studies at the University of Warwick in Coventry England. Upon receiving his degree, began fundraising and activist work with Greenpeace Action in New York City. 

Anthony comes from a family of contractors, which to this day provide services in Connecticut; he decided to take his experience and his interest focus to improve a very wasteful sector of the economy.  While working for his family business he attended a semester of courses in architecture at City College New York in Harlem and upon finishing began working in the New York City architecture and general construction sector. 

 In 1998, Anthony founded altPOWER, Inc., a renewable energy design and construction firm based in Manhattan with a primary focus on solar electric systems.  Within the past 10 years he has built altPOWER into one of the most successful and well respected renewable energy businesses in the Northeast.

Following is a list of advisory positions Anthony as held within the renewable energy industry:

  • March of 2000, Anthony was elected to the Board of Directors for the New York Solar Energy Industries Association and served through the spring of 2009, serving as President of the Board for 4 consecutive terms from 2002-2006 and Vice President from 2008-2009.
  • July of 2004, Anthony was asked to serve on the New York City Model Building Code Advisory Committee on Sustainability.
  • October of 2005, Anthony was asked to serve on the State of Connecticut Photovoltaic - Examination Review Committee as the state implemented its new photovoltaic licensing program.
  • December of 2005, Anthony was asked to serve on the Board of Directors of Alliance for Clean Energy NY for a 2 year term.
  • January of 2007, Anthony was selected to be a Presenter for The Climate Project, former Vice President and Noble Peace Prize Laureate Al Gore's climate change education organization.  Anthony was trained in person by Al Gore in Nashville TN
  • September 2007, Anthony was selected to join the NYC Economic Development Corporation and Mayor of Bloomberg's Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability's - New York City Solar City Advisory Board
  • January of 2008, Anthony was selected to join the U.S. Green Building Council New York City Chapter Board of Directors
  • February of 2008, Anthony was selected to join the NYC Electrical Code Revision and Interpretation Committee (ECRIC)

Following is a list of recent awards and acknowledgements Anthony has received:

  • July 2006, Anthony was awarded for Energy Professional Development by New York Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
  • May 2007, Anthony was awarded the Association of Energy Engineers 2007 Renewable Energy Innovator of the Year, an international award.
  • Jan 2008, Anthony was recognized as American Business Entrepreneur with a permanent display at the Museum of American Finance, located on Wall Street, New York, NY.
  • February 2008, Anthony was honored as a young leader in the architectural glass industry by Glass Magazine's with their annual 20 under 40 Awards.
  • October 2008 Anthony will be recognized by the Association of Energy Engineers as a "Legend in Energy".
  • October 2008 Anthony was featured as the North American entrepreneur for the CNBC production ‘'A MEETING OF MINDS'' a documentary about 4 leading global entrepreneurs one each from Asia, Japan, Europe and North America.
  • February 2009 Anthony received the U.S. Department of Energy's Transformational Energy Action Management Special Achievement Award for Technology Demonstration, in recognition of outstanding energy management in DOE facilities.
