Prior to co-founding Aegis Capital Group LLC in 2003, Mr. Roberts was a corporate attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions and venture capital investing, at the pre-eminent law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore (1987 - 1994), and Roberts, Sheridan & Kotel (1996 - 2001). In 2001, Roberts, Sheridan & Kotel merged with a 400 attorney Washington, DC based firm, Dickstein Shapiro LLP, where Mr. Roberts became head of its New York Corporate and Finance Practice and was appointed a member of the firm's Executive Committee.
During the past 20 years, Mr. Roberts has represented participants in a number of leveraged buyout, private equity, and venture capital funds focused on the communications, technology, financial services, automotive retailing, and chemicals sectors. Mr. Roberts also established and managed, on behalf of the partners and senior attorneys of Roberts Sheridan & Kotel, an investment fund that invested in several pre-IPO companies that were clients of Roberts, Sheridan & Kotel (or of its investment banking clients).
Mr. Roberts was ranked in the top 1% of his business school class at the University of Alberta, and he earned law degrees, with honors, from McGill University in Montreal (LL.B.) and Cambridge University in England (LL.M.).
