Degree Programs - Undergraduate Program - Requirements
Requirements for the B.S. in Nanoscale Science 

The B.S. program in Nanoscale Science requires the completion of the following:

  • Foundational Principles' Courses. Twenty (20) credits of NSCI 110, NSCI 112, NSCI 120, NSCI 122, and NSCI 124 (or NSCI 125). NSCI 122 and NSCI 124 may be replaced by NSCI 130 and NSCI 132 for students pursuing a nanobioscience concentration.
  • Core Competencies' Courses. Twenty-one (21) credits of NSCI 220 (or NSCI 221-Honors), NSCI 230 (or NSCI 231-Honors), NSCI 300, NSCI 305, NSCI 350, NSCI 360, and NSCI 410.
  • Concentrations' Courses. Twelve (12) credits of nanoscale science concentration courses and nine (9) credits of 400-level Nanoscale Science topical elective courses and other 400-level courses as advised. The following concentrations available to students pursuing Nanoscale Science Program:
    • Nanoelectronics: NSCI 310, 320, and 420-424
    • Nanostructured Materials: NSCI 310, 320, and 430-434
    • Nanobioscience: NSCI 240, 330, and 440-443
  • Capstone Undergraduate Research/Design' Courses. Nine (9) credits of NSCI 390, NSCI 490, NSCI 492 (or NSCI 493, for students in the Honors Program).
  • In addition, students in the nanoscale science program must complete:
    • Six (6) credits of nanotechnology survey courses;
    • Six (6) credits of 200-level Nanoscale Science and Technology Skills electives;
    • One (1) credit of a senior seminar courses (NSCI 498 or equivalent); and
    • Eighteen (18) credits of the following courses in mathematics (or their equivalent): AMAT 112 (or AMAT 118-Honors), AMAT 113 (or AMAT 119-honors), AMAT 214 (or AMAT 214-Honors), AMAT 220, and AMAT 314.
  • The total for the major is 102 credits. With the remaining General Education requirements not already completed in the major, the total for the degree program is 132 credit hours.
