RMTS launches research partnership at UAlbany NanoCollege to drive innovations in clean energy and medical instrumentation

Nanotechnology company relocates from Colorado to CNSE to accelerate advanced technologies for flexible smart window film, medical devices and consumer electronics
Albany, NY – RMTS, an emerging nanotechnology company that is developing innovative technologies with applications in clean energy, medical equipment for the health care industry, and consumer electronics, has relocated from Colorado to New York to launch a research and development partnership with the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) of the University at Albany.
Seven employees of RMTS are currently engaged in research, development and commercialization activities at CNSE’s Albany NanoTech Complex. The initial work targets the integration of new nanomaterials and groundbreaking processes and production methods to enable advanced high-performance polarizer products, which manage the intensity and direction of light waves, to reduce manufacturing costs while substantially increasing performance.
RMTS’ innovative polarizer technology is being used to develop a flexible solar window film that offers superior energy efficiency, decreases installation costs, and can be applied to the interior or exterior of either new or existing windows. The same technology is being applied to develop advanced polarizers for use in flat-screen televisions, laptop and computer displays, and touch panels, as well as a growing number of scientific instruments, medical imaging devices, and optical products, including cameras.
With the assistance of CNSE, RMTS has raised $400,000 in start-up funding to support its research and development activities. The company is also a member of CNSE’s Incubators for Collaborating and Leveraging Energy and Nanotechnology (iCLEAN), which was established in partnership with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Through joint research and development activities involving faculty and technical staff from the UAlbany NanoCollege, RMTS is now working to complete prototype development and product and environmental testing. The company is targeting combined multi-billion dollar annual markets for the application of its polarizer technologies in clean energy, medical equipment for the health care industry and consumer electronics.
RMTS’ executive management team is led by Chief Executive Officer/Chief Technology Officer Primal Fernando, who has more than 25 years in leadership and R&D positions in the technology and the defense industries, and President Steve Fischer, who spent 32 years with IBM in various roles spearheading new product development, engineering and manufacturing operations.
