ALBANY-— Job seekers from across the Capital Region gathered at UAlbany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering Tuesday with the hope of landing one of 50 jobs at the M+W Group.

Candidates from all walks of life poured into the building between 4 and 5 p.m. They crowded hallways and found seats in the stairwell to fill out the employment application before the company's presentation began.

M+W Group is a German-based global engineering, construction and project management company serving clients in advanced technology facilities, life science and chemicals, energy and environment technologies and high-tech infrastructure. The company's U.S. operations are based in Watervliet.

About 300 people attended the event, where they completed applications, saw a short presentation by M+W U.S. Inc. President and Chief Executive Rick Whitney and went through brief interviews in hopes of landing jobs paying anywhere from $40,000 to more than $100,000 a year.

This is the second job fair the company held at the NanoCollege. In 2009, the company hired 32 people when it had advertised 25 spots, Whitney said.

"We definitely see a lot of reasons to stay here long term," he said during the presentation. "This is a hub for the high-tech work... We are very close to almost all our major clients."

The positions also offer travel opportunities, in the U.S. and in other countries like Ireland or China.

"The airlines are very nice to us," he said.

After the 30-minute presentation, candidates filed into the hall to wait for interviews.

The company said it will contact candidates in two or three weeks and let them know if they qualified for a follow-up interview.
