EYP Architecture and Engineering has gone green.

The Albany-based firm decided in the early 2000s to respond to growing concern about global warming and higher energy costs with a renewed focus on producing environmentally friendly buildings. The move has given EYP a national reputation for green design.

"It's become a very, very big part of our business," says Tom Birdsey, the firm's president and chief executive. "It's a part of nearly every project we do these days."

That migration toward the green side of business is not unusual -- especially in the Capital Region.
