Driving miniaturization in semiconductors is a costly game–and a lonely one, judging by the dwindling number of companies that do it. But Samsung is stepping up to get more deeply involved, working jointly with IBM.
The relentless effort to squeeze more transistors and other components on a chip is often described as Moore’s Law, after Intel co-founder Gordon Moore’s famous observations about the pace of progress. Creating smaller features brings big benefits, making chips do more while lower the cost of each function. Full Article
