2008 Highlights

NanoCareer Day
Forty schools participated in NanoCareer Day programs, representing 1,200 students and 80 teachers.  New topics were introduced, including exciting advances in clean energy and environmental technologies, and the impact of nanobioscience on disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

NanoHigh
Certificates were presented to 20 Albany High School students as part of the first graduating class for the groundbreaking "NanoHigh" program, a partnership between CNSE and the City School District of Albany (CSDA) that is the first of its kind in the nation. Based on the success of the initial classes, CSDA launched an advanced nanoscience course in September.

Excelsior Scholars Nanoscale Science Summer Institute
Twenty-five students from five regional school districts participated in the inaugural edition of this six-week summer program designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of nanoscale science and engineering. 

NanoEducation Summit
CNSE and CSDA partnered to present the first-ever Capital Region NanoEducation Summit, at which more than 100 superintendents, administrators and educators representing over 35 regional school districts discussed the integration of nanotechnology into math and science curricula. 

Dr. Kaloyeros Receives CMOST Award
Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros, CNSE Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer, was honored with the "Explore, Discover, Imagine" Award at the 2008 Anniversary Gala held by the Children's Museum of Science and Technology.
 
Future City Competition
More than 750 students, parents and educators attended the 7th Annual Capital District Future City Competition, which received major support from CNSE, including preparatory educational sessions and a keynote presentation entitled, Nanotechnology: Small Science, Big Future.
  
Adventures in Science
CNSE partnered with the Schenectady Museum and Suits-Bueche Planetarium to present hands-on nanotechnology activities for children and parents as part of the museum's Adventures in Science program.
  
STEP Statewide Student Conference
Students from throughout New York State attended a nanotechnology presentation and hands-on workshop presented by CNSE at the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) Statewide Student Conference.
  
CNSE and AHS Engineering Explorations Program
CNSE faculty and graduate students hosted students and teachers from Albany High School for a week-long program that involved nanotechnology presentations, tours and in-depth laboratory activities. 

Schalmont School District Visits CNSE
More than 200 administrators, teachers and employees of the Schalmont School District attended a presentation and tour of CNSE as part of their Superintendent's Conference Day.

Nano101 for Educators
Education professionals from around New York State converged on CNSE to receive an in-depth look at nanotechnology and discuss educational initiatives and partnerships to help prepare students for their place in the 21st-century innovation economy.  

National Chemistry Week
More than 400 children and their families celebrated chemistry and related fields of science at the New York State Museum as part of National Chemistry Week, which featured a CNSE educational booth about nanotechnology.
