The University at Albany held its Graduate Commencement ceremony on May 19, 2007. After the ceremony, the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering held a reception to celebrate the achievements of its five Spring 2007 graduates:

Mr. Michael Hatzistergos, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Relative X-Ray Line Intensities and Their Application to a Single Standard Procedure for Quantitative X-Ray Microanalysis of Bulk Samples and Thin Films." He has accepted professional employment with IBM Systems and Technology Group in Hopewell Junction, NY. He was advised by Professor Eric Lifshin. Dr. Hatzistergos is native of Toronto, Canada and Kos, Greece.
Mr. Chaffra Awo-Affouda, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Magnetic and Structural Properties of Manganese Ion Implanted Silicon," which received the UAlbany Distinguished Dissertation Award. Dr. Awo-Affouda accepted a postdoctoral research position with the Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C. where his work will involve Magnetoelectronic Materials and Devices in the Materials Science and Technology Division. He was advised by Professor Vincent LaBella. Dr. Awo-Affouda is a native of Cotonou, Benin, and a permanent resident of the United States.
Ms. Pamela Lee, M.S., whose masters paper was titled "Organic Solar Cell Devices Based on Polymer-Nanostructure Blends." She was advised by Professor Pradeep Haldar. Ms. Lee has accepted professional employment as a research consultant with Prismark Partners LLC, a firm which serves the technology industry located in Cold Spring Harbor, NY. Ms. Lee is a native of New Hyde Park, New York.
Mr. Narender Rana, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Investigation of Genetically-Engineered Beta-Sheet Polypeptides for Nanoelectronics." He accepted professional employment with the litho metrology development group with IBM Microelectronics in East Fishkill, NY. He was advised by Professor Alain Kaloyeros. Dr. Rana is a native of India.
Mr. George Sirinakis, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Microstructure, Optical Properties, and sensing Performance of Gold-Yttria-Stablized-Zirconia Nanocomposites for Aggressive-Environment Applications." He has accepted a postdoctoral research position in the Department of Physicology and Biophysics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Sirinakis was advised by Professor Michael Carpenter, and is a native of Athens, Greece.
