The University at Albany held its Graduate Commencement ceremony on December 10, 2006. After the ceremony, the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering held a reception to celebrate the achievements of its seven December 2006 graduates.

Graduating from the College were:
Mr. Jacob Atesang, M.S., whose Masters thesis was titled "Development of Tip-Enhanced Raman Scattering for Stress Measurement in Strained Silicon." Mr. Atesang, a native of Bemenda, Cameroon, was advised by Professor Robert Geer.
Mr. Chaffra Awo-Affouda, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Magnetic and Structural Properties of Manganese Ion Implanted Silicon." Dr. Awo-Affouda was advised by Professor Vincent LaBella. He is a native of Cotonou, Benin, and a permanent resident of the United States.
Mr. Spyridon Galis, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Erbium-doped Silicon-oxycarbide Materials for Advanced Optical Waveguide Amplifiers." A native of Athens, Greece, he was advised by Professor Alain Kaloyeros. Dr. Galis accepted professional employment as a Physical Failure Analysis Engineer/Scientist with IBM Microelectronics in East Fishkill, NY.
Mr. Fu Luo, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Enhanced Integrability of Porous Low Permittivity Dielectrics for Improved Reliability in Copper-based Interconnects." Dr. Luo was advised by Professor Eric Eisenbraun, and is a native of the People's Republic of China.
Mr. Filippos Papadatos, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Properties of Ru-based Thin Films Grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) Methods for Future Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) Gate Electrode Applications." Dr. Papadatos was advised by Professors Alain Kaloyeros and Eric Eisenbraun, and is a native of Thessaloniki, Greece. Dr. Papadatos accepted professional employment as a Process Development Engineer with IBM Microelectronics in East Fishkill, NY.
Mr. Nipun Tandon, M.S., whose Masters research project was titled "Development of High Efficiency Carbon Electrodes for Ultracapacitor Technology." A native of Mumbai, India, Mr. Tandon was advised by Professor Pradeep Haldar.
Mr. Yu Zhu, Ph.D., whose doctoral dissertation was titled "Integration of Atomic Layer Deposition Tantalum Nitride and Platinum with Electrochemical Deposition of Copper for Interconnect Technology." He was advised by Professors Alain Kaloyeros and Kathleen Dunn, and is a native of the People's Republic of China. Dr. Zhu has accepted professional employment as an Advisory Engineer for Phase Change Memory with IBM in Yorktown Heights, NY.
