Career Details
Position Title: Building Management System Technician
Employment is with the Research Foundation for SUNY, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.

Description of Duties:

The Building Management System (BMS) Technician duties include, but are not limited to: monitor, evaluate, and adjust mechanical systems performance for proper and efficient operation. Assist Facility Operation Group (FOG) staff and contractors with maintaining DDC/SCADA systems including Siemens, Honeywell, General Electric, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, PLCs and other control software interfaces. Provides technical guidance and support including set-up, verification, operation, and troubleshooting complex building automation and control systems. Provides technical instruction and training to other technicians and personnel on basic theory, proper system operations, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting techniques, typical system failures and corrections. Familiar with instrumentation and calibration techniques. Provides recommendations on equipment/systems operation and modification for energy conservation, efficiency, and reliability. This position will primarily be assigned to the evening shift, M-F (3pm –midnight). Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the design, installation and implementation of DDC building control systems including programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, operation and maintenance. Must possess the technical knowledge to troubleshoot complex building automation systems. Candidate must also have excellent communication skills and a high level of self-confidence with the ability to work independently. Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications. Candidates must address in their applications their abilities to work with culturally diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) year technical certificate or an associate degree in a related technical field and five (5) years’ experience in the design, installation and implementation of DDC building control systems including programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, operation and maintenance. Certification in advanced operation of DDC software and components, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s), etc.
  • Shift: 3pm - midnight, M-F
This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background investigation; this position may be subject to annual background investigations.
